Perturbation theory
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008691
A mathematical method used in quantum mechanics to approximate the solutions to a complex quantum system by starting from the known solutions of a simpler, related system. It treats the difference between the complex and simple systems as a small 'perturbation'. This approach is widely applied in computational chemistry to calculate molecular properties and electronic structures.
