Coulomb integral
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002623
A diagonal Hamiltonian integral taken over a single orbital in molecular orbital theory, written alpha in Hueckel theory, which approximates the energy of an electron in that orbital and is negative. The same name is used in Hartree-Fock theory for the integral J, the positive electrostatic repulsion between the charge distributions of electrons in two different orbitals. Its counterpart, the exchange integral, has no classical analogue.
