Cerebral cortex

The outermost layer of the cerebrum, composed of gray matter, which is responsible for higher-order functions such as thought, language, memory, and voluntary movement. This convoluted surface is divided into several lobes, each associated with specific cognitive functions. Its thickness varies from 1 to 4.5 millimeters.
