Baseline toxicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001129
The minimum level of toxicity exerted by a chemical due to its physical presence in biological membranes, rather than specific receptor interactions or metabolic activation. This effect is often observed with inert, non-polar organic compounds that accumulate in lipid bilayers. It serves as a reference point for comparing the specific toxicity of other substances.
