Basal lamina
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001118
A thin, extracellular layer of specialized connective tissue that underlies epithelial cells and surrounds muscle cells, adipocytes, and Schwann cells. It provides structural support, acts as a selective filter, and influences cell differentiation and migration. This layer is composed primarily of laminin, type IV collagen, proteoglycans, and entactin.
