Chondrocyte

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002024

A cell type found within the cartilage tissue, responsible for producing and maintaining the cartilaginous matrix. These cells are derived from chondroblasts and are embedded in lacunae within the extracellular matrix. Chondrocytes synthesize collagen and proteoglycans, which provide cartilage with its structural integrity and flexibility.
