Base

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012915

A chemical species that can accept a proton (Brønsted-Lowry base) or donate a pair of electrons (Lewis base). In aqueous solutions, a base typically increases the concentration of hydroxide ions. The strength of a base is quantified by its base dissociation constant (Kb) or its pKb value.
