Base

The fundamental part or foundation upon which a system or component is built or supported. In electronics, it can refer to the control terminal of a bipolar junction transistor, which regulates the current flow between the collector and emitter. In a numbering system, the base indicates the number of unique digits used, such as base 10 for decimal.
