Base cap

A decorative molding profile applied to the top edge of a flat baseboard to create a more detailed and substantial appearance. It is installed on top of a simple, square-edged board (a base shoe is applied at the bottom) to form a two-piece or three-piece baseboard assembly. Base cap profiles are often designed to match or complement the profiles of casing used around doors and windows.
