Memory cell

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007169

A long-lived lymphocyte, either a T cell or a B cell, that is produced during a primary immune response to an antigen. These cells persist in the body after the initial infection or vaccination has resolved and are capable of mounting a more rapid and effective secondary immune response upon subsequent encounters with the same antigen. The secondary response mediated by memory cells has a lower activation threshold compared to the primary response from naive lymphocytes.
