Peptide-binding groove

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008612

A specific cleft or pocket located on the surface of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules, responsible for binding and presenting peptide antigens to T cells. This groove's structure determines which peptides can be accommodated, influencing the immune response. MHC class I molecules bind shorter peptides, while MHC class II molecules bind longer ones.
