Peptide vaccine
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008611
A type of subunit vaccine that uses short, synthetic chains of amino acids corresponding to the epitopes of a pathogen's antigens to elicit a specific immune response. These peptides are too small to induce an immune response on their own and must be administered with an adjuvant or conjugated to a larger carrier protein. Because they contain only specific, targeted fragments, peptide vaccines avoid the risks associated with using whole inactivated or live attenuated organisms.
