Adjuvant

A substance added to a vaccine or drug formulation to enhance the immune response to an antigen or to modify the drug's effect. Adjuvants can prolong the presence of the antigen at the injection site or stimulate immune cells directly. Aluminum salts and oil-in-water emulsions are common types of adjuvants used in vaccines.
