Freund’s adjuvant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004674
An emulsion of mineral oil and water used to enhance the immune response to an antigen administered with it for immunization purposes. Freund's complete adjuvant contains heat-killed and dried mycobacteria, which further stimulate the immune system, while Freund's incomplete adjuvant lacks the bacterial components. The complete form is used for initial immunizations in animals, whereas the incomplete form is used for subsequent booster injections.
