Friction factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004675
The ratio of the resisting force acting along the surface on a sliding body to the force pressing the two surfaces together, a dimensionless number that was formerly called the coefficient of friction. In fluid dynamics the same name is given to a different dimensionless quantity, the Darcy friction factor, which relates the pressure drop in a pipe to the flow and for laminar flow equals 64 divided by the Reynolds number.
