Antigen recognition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000683

The specific binding of an antigen by an antigen receptor on a lymphocyte, which is a fundamental step in initiating an adaptive immune response. T-cell receptors recognize peptide fragments presented by major histocompatibility complex molecules, while B-cell receptors recognize intact antigens. This interaction triggers a cascade of intracellular signaling events.
