Cognate T cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002176
A T lymphocyte that possesses a T-cell receptor capable of specifically recognizing and binding to a particular antigen when it is presented by an antigen-presenting cell (APC). This specific interaction is required to initiate an adaptive immune response against that antigen. For example, a cognate helper T cell provides activation signals to a B lymphocyte that has bound the same antigen, leading to antibody production.
