A factor, quantity, or condition that can be changed or controlled in an experiment, process, or system. In industrial processes, variables such as temperature, pressure, and flow rate are monitored and adjusted to maintain product quality and operational efficiency. A distinction is made between independent variables, which are manipulated, and dependent variables, which are observed to measure the effect of the manipulation.
