Variable valve timing

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007354

An internal combustion engine technology that alters the timing of the intake and exhaust valve lift events. By adjusting when the valves open and close relative to piston position, the engine can adapt its performance characteristics across different operating speeds and loads. The adjustment is controlled by the engine control unit (ECU) which actuates hydraulic or electric cam phasers, with some systems offering continuous adjustment rather than discrete steps.
