Continuous variable valve timing

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001325

An automotive engine technology that adjusts the timing of valve lift events over a continuous range, rather than between a few set positions. It uses hydraulically operated camshaft phasers to rotate the camshafts relative to their drive sprockets, advancing or retarding the valve timing. This system contrasts with stepped variable valve timing, which switches between discrete cam profiles for low and high engine speeds.
