Blow down

To rapidly release pressure from a vessel, boiler, or pipeline by venting its contents. This procedure is performed for maintenance, emergency shutdowns, or to control the concentration of dissolved solids in boiler water. The blowdown rate in a boiler system is calculated as a percentage of the feedwater flow rate and is adjusted to maintain water chemistry within specified limits.
