Soot

Fine black or dark brown particulate matter composed primarily of amorphous carbon, produced by the incomplete combustion of organic materials such as fossil fuels, wood, and biomass. In the atmosphere, soot acts as an aerosol, absorbing solar radiation and contributing to warming. It is a component of black carbon and can have adverse effects on air quality and human health.
