Lamp black
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006433
A carbon black made by burning aromatic-rich oil in shallow flat pans with limited air and collecting the soot. Its particles are relatively large, around 100 nanometres, with a broad size distribution and a surface area of only a few tens of square metres per gram, well below furnace blacks. It is mainly used as a black pigment in inks, paints and coatings.
