Carbon cenospheres
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001632
Porous or hollow carbonaceous spheres, mostly a few micrometres to several hundred micrometres across, that form when droplets of heavy fuel oil or particles of coal undergo pyrolysis or burning. Their thin shells enclose a void, giving a low bulk density. They are far larger than carbon black particles, whose primary particles measure only tens of nanometres.
