Micro-suspension polymerisation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007365

A suspension polymerization in which the monomer droplets, and so the resulting particles, are only a few micrometres across. The droplets are produced by strong homogenisation with an emulsifier, and the initiator dissolves in the monomer, so each droplet polymerizes as its own small bulk reactor. Polyvinyl chloride paste resins are made this way.
