Microsyneresis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007366

The localized expulsion of solvent from a polymer gel or network, occurring on a microscopic scale. This phenomenon results from the contraction of the polymer network, leading to the formation of small, solvent-rich pockets or droplets within the gel. Microsyneresis can affect the mechanical properties and stability of gels.
