Newton black film
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007932
The thinner of the two equilibrium black films seen in soap films, only a few nanometres thick and nearly independent of changes in ionic strength. It looks black in reflected light because the reflections from its two faces cancel by destructive interference. It differs from the common black film, which is about 7 nanometres or thicker and varies with the electrolyte concentration.
