Petroleum coke

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008699

A carbonaceous solid residue derived from the thermal cracking of heavy petroleum fractions, such as vacuum residuum or decant oil. It consists primarily of carbon with varying amounts of sulfur, metals, and other impurities. This material is widely used as a fuel, an anode material in aluminum production, and a raw material for graphite electrodes.
