Delayed coking process
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002963
A thermal cracking process used in petroleum refining to convert heavy residual oils into lighter products and petroleum coke. The heavy feedstock is heated and then sent to large coke drums where it undergoes thermal decomposition over an extended period. This process produces a solid carbonaceous material, petroleum coke, along with liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons.
