Poison
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009066
A substance that reduces or completely deactivates the catalytic activity of a catalyst. This occurs by strong adsorption onto the active sites, blocking them from reacting with the substrate, or by chemically altering the catalyst surface. The effect of a poison can be reversible or irreversible, depending on the strength of its interaction with the catalyst.
