After-effect of a poison

A delayed or persistent adverse health effect that manifests after the initial exposure to a toxic substance has ceased. These effects may appear long after the poison has been eliminated from the body or after the acute symptoms have resolved. An example is the development of chronic neurological disorders years after exposure to certain heavy metals.
