Hit-and-run effect

A toxicological phenomenon where a transient exposure to a substance causes persistent or delayed adverse effects, even after the substance has been eliminated from the body. The initial interaction triggers a cascade of events that continues independently. This effect is often observed with genotoxic carcinogens.
