Chronic effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002060
An adverse effect that develops slowly, persists for a long time, or both, whether it follows a single exposure or repeated exposure. A rapidly developing effect that then lasts, such as permanent tissue damage after one dose, also counts as chronic. The term describes the course of the effect, whereas chronic toxicity describes effects after long-term exposure.
