Describing conditions, processes, or exposures that are persistent or long-lasting in their effects. In toxicology, it pertains to adverse effects that occur after repeated or continuous exposure to a substance over a prolonged period. A chronic exposure duration for rodents in laboratory studies is defined as lasting for the major portion of the animal's lifespan, typically 18 to 24 months.
