Heterogeneous assay
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005241
An analytical method in which the reactants are in different phases, requiring a physical separation step to distinguish between bound and unbound components before measurement. Typically, one component, such as an antibody or antigen, is immobilized on a solid surface like a microplate well, while the other components are in a liquid solution. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a common example of a heterogeneous assay that requires washing steps to remove unbound reagents.
