Heterogeneous catalysis coordination polymerization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005243

A coordination polymerization in which the active catalyst is a solid that does not dissolve in the reaction medium, either an insoluble crystalline compound or a species fixed on a support such as magnesium chloride. The polymer grows on the surface of each catalyst particle, so the product particles copy the shape of the catalyst particles. Ziegler-Natta catalysts for polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene are the main industrial examples.
