Material homogeneity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007021

The degree to which a specific property or constituent is uniformly distributed throughout a quantity of material. For a material to be considered homogeneous with respect to an analytical procedure, any variations in the property must be negligible compared to the measurement uncertainty of the procedure itself. Homogeneity is assessed by analyzing multiple subsamples and evaluating the variance between them relative to the variance within them.
