Shape-memory polymer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010799

A polymeric material capable of recovering its original shape from a temporary, deformed shape upon exposure to an external stimulus, such as heat, light, or a specific chemical. The temporary shape is fixed by cooling or other means below a transition temperature, while the original shape is stored by the polymer's molecular architecture. These materials find applications in smart textiles, biomedical devices, and deployable structures.
