Stress-assisted transition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011477

A phase transformation in a solid material that is influenced or promoted by the application of mechanical stress. This external force can lower the energy barrier for the transition, causing it to occur at conditions where it would not otherwise. Such transitions are often observed in shape memory alloys and ferroelectric materials.
