Ferroelastic transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004383
A phase transition in a material where a spontaneous strain appears below the transition temperature, which can be reoriented by an external mechanical stress. This change in crystal structure results in multiple orientation states that are energetically equivalent. Such transitions are observed in certain ceramics and alloys.
