Mouse ear-swelling test
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007603
A bioassay for the skin-sensitizing potential of a chemical. Mice are first sensitized, then challenged by painting the substance on one ear, and the swelling that follows is measured as the inflammatory response, usually as the increase in ear thickness compared with control animals. It serves in immunotoxicology as a quicker screen than the guinea pig maximization test.
