Challenge
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001865
The deliberate administration of an antigen or immunogen to a previously sensitized subject to elicit and measure an immune response. This procedure is used in toxicology and immunology to assess the functionality of the immune system after exposure to a test substance or to confirm a state of hypersensitivity. In allergy testing, a food challenge involves giving a patient a small, measured amount of a potential allergen under medical supervision.
