Calcineurin inhibitor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001570
A class of immunosuppressive drugs that block the activity of calcineurin, a phosphatase enzyme involved in T lymphocyte activation. By inhibiting calcineurin, these drugs prevent the dephosphorylation of NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T cells), thereby suppressing the transcription of cytokine genes like interleukin-2. Cyclosporine and tacrolimus are prominent examples used in organ transplantation.
