Immunophilin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005697

A family of intracellular proteins that bind to and mediate the effects of immunosuppressive drugs like cyclosporin A and tacrolimus. These proteins possess peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase activity, influencing protein folding and signaling pathways within cells. Immunophilins are involved in T lymphocyte activation and are targets for immunosuppressive therapies to prevent transplant rejection.
