Corticosteroid

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002614

A class of steroid hormones produced naturally in the adrenal cortex or manufactured synthetically. They regulate a wide array of metabolic, cardiovascular, and immunological functions by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid or mineralocorticoid receptors. Due to their potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, synthetic corticosteroids like prednisone and dexamethasone are widely prescribed to manage conditions such as asthma, autoimmune diseases, and to prevent organ transplant rejection.
