Glucocorticoid

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004924

A class of corticosteroid hormones that bind to the glucocorticoid receptor and are produced primarily in the adrenal cortex. These hormones, including cortisol, regulate metabolic pathways such as gluconeogenesis, suppress the immune system, and possess anti-inflammatory properties. Synthetic glucocorticoids like prednisone and dexamethasone are widely used as medications to treat inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and certain cancers.
