Biomonitor

An organism or a biological system used to detect, quantify, or assess the effects of environmental pollutants. Biomonitors can accumulate contaminants in their tissues or exhibit specific physiological or behavioral responses to pollution. Mussels, for instance, are often used as biomonitors for heavy metal contamination in aquatic environments.
