Hemiacetals
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005184
Organic compounds formed by the reversible reaction between an aldehyde or ketone and an alcohol, resulting in a molecule containing both a hydroxyl group and an alkoxy group attached to the same carbon atom. They are intermediates in the formation of acetals and are often found in cyclic forms, such as the cyclic sugars.
