Hemiaminals

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005185

Organic compounds formed by the reversible addition of an amine to a carbonyl group (aldehyde or ketone), resulting in a molecule with both a hydroxyl group and an amino group attached to the same carbon atom. These compounds are generally unstable and readily dehydrate to form imines. They are intermediates in the synthesis of amines from carbonyl compounds.
