Thioacetals
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012006
Organic compounds in which the oxygen atoms of an acetal are replaced by sulfur atoms. They are formed by the reaction of an aldehyde or ketone with two thiols or a dithiol. Thioacetals are often used as protecting groups for carbonyl compounds in organic synthesis due to their stability under a range of reaction conditions.
